Emergency “Herbal Medicine”
When most people think of natural
medicine with regard to herbs,
supplements, etc., they think of
substances that will work over time to
prevent disease or help cure some
chronic disease.
However, the kingdom of natural
medicine boasts some remedies that
have literally saved the life of people in
emergency situations.
Some of these remedies work fine to
save a life in and of themselves; others
will work until medical attention can be
obtained.
It is not my intent to try and cover all of
the various remedies that one could use
in emergency situations, but I have
chosen a few that I believe will be very
helpful.
Cayenne- God’s Nitro-Glycerin
Cayenne pepper should always be
available to every family. “About 1.5
million Americans are admitted to
hospitals yearly for serious chest pain,
which is often a warning sign of heart
attack.”1
Coronary artery disease is the major
cause of heart attack. About one person
per minute dies from a coronary event,
and about 14 million americans suffer
from coronary artery disease!2

2 ibid.
Cayenne pepper will stop a heart attack
in its tracks. Numerous herbal
practioners, medical missionaries,
naturopatheic doctors, etc. relay their
success in using cayenne to stop a heart
attack. The very sucessful
Dr.Christopher wrote, “Prop up the
patient and pour hot cayenne tea
down, and the attack will stop
immediately. We have been called in
the middle of the night so many times.
A teaspoon of cayenne should bring
the patient out of the heart attack.”3
Cayenne Pepper
The extremely succesful medical
missionary, Mamon Wilson, writes:
“Cayenne is a special herb… We had an
experience with an elderly man several
years ago. We were in a service just
singing and praising the Lord; and he
slumped over on the floor. He was
having a heart attack. We were having a

training school at the time so all the
students started scrambling for the
cayenne pepper because that’s what we
had drilled into them. We gave him the
cayenne pepper and he revived in less
than 60 seconds. What is the difference
between cayenne pepper and nitroglycerine?
Nitro-glycerine has a lot of
side effects that we don’t need…God has
given us cayenne pepper, which
produces the same effect as nitroglycerine
and the best way to take it is
similar to nitro-glycerine
“If someone is having a heart attack
and has passed out, we simply take ½
teaspoon of cayenne pepper and put it
under his tongue. It will revive him in
less than 60 seconds.”4
I had previously informed my mother,
who suffers from coronory artery disease
that a heart attack can be stopped by
cayenne pepper. After having chest pains
one day she recalled this and placed a
couple of cayenne capsules beneath her
tongue. She says that indeed the pain
stopped.
AN IMPORTANT NOTE
In order to stop a heart attack with
cayenne pepper, the pepper must be at
least 90,000 heat units. Cayenne pepper
is not your average red pepper, but it
must be “cayenne” also known as
African bird pepper.
BEE STINGS/INSECT BITES
For venomous bites activated Charcoal
is definetly God’s antivenom agent in
cases of emergency. For fire ant bites,

mosquito bites, chigger bites, poison
ivy, and various other venemous bites,
charcoal will do wonders.
Dr. Agatha Thrash, M.D., explains,
“Fire ants leave a sterile abscess under
the sting from the venom which kills a
tiny area of tissue. An ordinary band-aid,
wet slightly and rubbed with a charcoal
tablet until it is entirely black , and
applied as a mini poultice combats ant
stings.”5 This can be done as noted
above for mosquito bites, chigger bites,
and poison ivy.
Dr. Thrash, in discussing the use of
charcoal with regard to a bee sting, says:
“Many years ago we had a young coworker
who was stung on the finger by a
yellow jacket. He spent one sleepless
night due to pain, and was about to go
into his second when he decided that he
would apply a charcoal poultice. At that
time none of us had used charcoal
poultices for yellow jacket stings and
didn’t know what to expect. Within five
minutes the pain was gone and he slept
all night. Since that time whenever
anyone is stung by a bee, wasp, or
yellow jacket, we promptly apply a
poultice which will prevent either
swelling or pain.”6
Dr. Thrash also points out that the
treatment of choice for a brown recluse
spider bite is charcoal. In fact there is no
other recognozed treatment except “wide
surgical excision.” There is no known
antidote.

Brown Recluse spider bite after a few
days.
Speaking of charcoal Dr. Dana Myatt
N.M.D., says, “It's the only thing to do
for a Brown Recluse Spider bite.
(Conventional medical treatment
consists of giving both an antibiotic and
prednisone, both of which are basically
worthless in preventing the inevitable
tissue damage that will follow.) But
placing a charcoal poultice over the bite
site will pull the toxins out of the
system, usually in as little as one hour. I
have also used it successfully in Black
Widow Spider bites (not as serious as a
Brown Recluse bite, but very painful).
Two M.D. colleagues of mine tell me
that it works well for snake bite, and I
would certainly use it in this instance if I
had occasion to.”7
Dr. Thrash adds, “The brown recluse
spider produces a bite that gives little or
no pain at first. In 24 hours a purplish
red zone develops around the bite, and
extensive tissue death occurs. It may
produce a very deep and angry
ulceration extending down to the bone,
which lasts for weeks or months. We
have had three brown recluse spider
bites successfully treated with charcoal,
which produced no ulcerations and only
the faintest purple discoloration after one
week. The sooner treatment is begun the

better. The spider is brown and has a
fiddle-shaped mark on the back.”8
CHARCOAL IF YOU ARE
POISONED
We have already produced one entire
report on charcoal and especially its
benefits in the case of poisoning and will
not go into as much detail in this issue.
Nevertheless I will relay an instance
wherein I used it on my pet.
We put down fire ant granules in our
yard and soon afterwards we noticed our
dog vomiting continually. I immediately
assumed he had ingested some of these
granules on one occasion after being let
out of the garage to play. I took a
tablespoon or so of charcoal and mixed
it in his water. Not long after ward he
stopped vomiting. However, I kept
giving it to him for a couple of days.
Since that time he has not experienced
any more problems.
TOOTHACHE
Many people may wonder about
toothache being included in emergency
natural medicine, but I have seen the
power of the toothache to totally
incapacitate people.
I have used a very effective remedy of
charcoal to relieve pain in an inflamed
tooth of my wife.
She began to have pain in a tooth, and
this pain increased in its intensity daily.
Finally she contacted a dentist, but it was
the holiday season and after calling
around to several dentists the soonest she
could get in for an appointment was two
weeks!
8 opp. Cite Thrash pgs 147-48
As the pain increased to the point that
she could take it no longer I decided to
try a charcoal poultice. I mixed enough
water with activated charcoal to make a
paste, and placed it on a piece of gauze
that I cut to fit over the tooth.
Afterwards I prayed for my wife, which
by this time was in such excruciating
pain that she was in tears.
Within about 10 minutes she begin to fill
the pain subside from her head, on the
same side as the tooth down to the tooth.
In another 10 minutes she had dropped
off to sleep for the pain had stopped.
Over the next 10 days or so I gave her
charcoal mixed in water to drink and
made a poultice if she needed it until she
could get to the dentist.
The Medical Missionary Mamon
Wilson gives the following alternate
herbal combination to arrest toothache
pain: 3 tablespoons charcoal, 1/2
teaspoon clove oil, 1/3 teaspoon cayenne
pepper, ½ teaspoon olive oil (enough to
make a paste), and 1 teaspoon of golden
seal. He states: “ This remedy is strictly
for pain in the jaw or tooth pain. Pack
this around the tooth that is giving you
problems. If you can cover the tooth up
it will generate heat. That will remove
the pain faster than any toothache
remedy. Try it. You will feel the heat
and you can go wash your mouth out. If
you are in a lot of pain the heat is
comforting. The pain of the poultice
drawing is less than the throbbing of the
toothache. [The mixture] should be quite
thick, about the consistency of natural
peanut butter. You want to be able to
mould it around the tooth, so that it will
stick.”
He says further, “If you have an
abscess with a lot of swelling, you
cannot get that tooth pulled until you get
the abscess under control. This recipe is
famous for getting that abscess down
3 parts Slippery Elm, 2 parts baking
yeast, 4 drops cloves, 1/3 teaspoon
cayenne pepper.” He adds a little water,
enough to make a paste. It will be
gummy due to the slippery elm. Then
pack this mixture around the gum.
The slippery elm, like charcoal, draws
the inflammation, the cayenne stimulates
the cells around the tooth to release
toxins and the cloves are added for the
reputation as a pain remedy, especially
in toothache.
BURNS/CUTS WOUNDS
Herbal Stitches
One of my favorite emergency natural
remedies for wounds, cuts, scrapes, and
even burns is a combination I call herbal
stitches. I originally based the formula
that I use off of Dr. Christopher’s
formula.
Dr. Christopher explained: “To equal
parts of liquid honey and wheat germ oil,
blend in finely chopped or powdered,
fresh or dried comfrey leaf or root.
When the mixture is the consistency of a
heavy spreadable paste it is ready to use.
Apply it a half-inch thick or more, over
the entire area that has been burned,
scalded, etc. Cover with gauze and
bandage lightly. Observe area from day
to day and if paste has been absorbed,
add more on top of the original
application. Do not remove original, just
add to it when needed.”9

A cut finger, the result of a table saw
accident.
I used a variant of this formula with a
cut on my wife’s foot, and my
stepdaughter’s knee. My wife obtained a
cut on the top of her foot a couple of
years ago from the sharp edge of the
bottom of a refrigerator door. The cut
was at least an inch deep. After washing
the wound the blood continued to come
so I threw cayenne into the wound. This
will, and did, cause the bleeding to stop.
I placed the above formula on the
wound. It is almost like a natural bandaid.
This is why I call it herbal stitches.
The next day there was no soreness or
pain, but amazingly the wound had
actually begun to fill itself from within
with new flesh. The mixture had been
“sucked” into the wound. Each day we
added more of the mixture to replace
that which had been used to regenerate
the flesh within the wound. Within a
couple of weeks or so the wound was
totally healed! This same method was
used on a bad scrape obtained from a fall
on pavement by my stepdaughter. We
obtained the same results!
I mentioned that I altered the formula.
This was done because I did not have
wheat germ oil at the time that I was
making the mixture so I used olive oil
instead. I would; however, use the wheat
germ oil. This mixture can be made and
stored in tightly closed glass bottles at
room temperature, and will keep for
many months. A bottle can be kept for
cases of emergency.
EAR ACHE
Dr. Christopher writes, “The simple,
old-fashioned aids are sometimes very
fast in giving relief. We will give you a
number of aids that have been used
successfully for many years. Always
treat both ears, even if only one aches.
Onion: Lightly bake a large onion, cut it
in half and while warm (not hot enough
to irritate the area), bind one half of the
onion over each ear. Bandage in place
and hold bandage on with a nightcap,
white skullcap, etc., and leave on all
night.
Garlic. Drop four to six drops of
oil of garlic into each ear and plug with
warm cotton
Chamomile: Use a fomentation
over both ears of three parts of
chamomile and one part of lobelia. Take
two ounces orally (a wineglass full) each
two waking hours. Leave the
fomentation on the ears all night. (Cover
fomentation with plastic or oiled silk,
etc.).
Mullein: Use three to six drops
of mullein oil in both ears several times
each day. Insert it upon retiring for the
night, and, as before, plug the ears with
cotton. Place a fomentation over the
ears all night of three parts mullein and
one part lobelia.
Lobelia: Place a few drops of
tincture of lobelia (warmed) into each
ear and plug with cotton.” 10
Adding to these earache remedies, the
Medical Missionary Mamon Wilson
explains: “For someone who has an
earache, I like to use a roasted onion.
Cut it in half. Put a drop of warm olive
oil down in both ears (you can also use
vitamin E or garlic oil) Sometimes I will
take a clove of garlic and wrap it in
tissue and leave one in each ear over
night.
I put half the onion over the ear and
cover it up. An ace bandage is used to
secure this. I like to do both ears even if
there is only pain in one ear. Most ear
problems come from sinus drainage,
which infects the ear. So if you have
chronic ear problems, check the sinuses.
Young children with runny noses
always seem to have ear infections. If
you heat the onion and put on the ear
warm that is best. You can put a towel
over it to insulate it a little.”11
ASTHMA ATTACK
In the event of an asthma attack Dr. F.
Batmanghelidj, M.D., explains how to
use water and salt. He writes, “Salt
(ideally sea salt) is a strong
antihistamine. It can be used to relieve
asthma by putting it on the tongue
after drinking a glass or two of water.
It is as effective as an inhaler, without
the toxicity. You should drink one or
10 opp cite christopher

two glasses of water before putting
salt on the tongue.”12
Closely associated with asthma
problems are other general respiratory
conditions such as bronchitis, respiratory
infection, and coughs resulting from the
common cold.
I received a call to our ministry from a
young lady that my wife met who had
explained that her baby, but a few
months old, was suffering from asthma,
mainly at night, and often had to be
rushed to the hospital.
With a child that young it was difficult
to determine what I would do if I were in
her situation. So as usual when in such
situations I prayed, and explained to her
what I would do if I had a child in that
situation. I would use Eucalyptus oil.
The young lady did in fact try it in a
vaporizer, and it worked like a charm.
The infant that had not been able to sleep
through the night without great difficulty
in breathing was able to do so with the
addition of the Eucalyptus Oil!
One remedy by Dr. Maude E. Scott,
M.H., N.D., which one mother used,
who had to consistently take her children
to the hospital for severe congestion and
has been relayed to me that works
wonders is a “Eucalyptus Cough Syrup”.
The recipe follows:
INGREDIENTS:
“ 1 pint of lemon juice (use fresh juice
when possible)
1 pint of honey (best quality)
2 tablespoons of vegetable glycerine

Adults: Take two to four tablespoons 3
times a day. Children: Take one to two
tablespoons (depending on age) three
times a day.”13
LABOR PAINS
Doing medical missionary work I have
found God has placed some very
effective herbs upon the earth for the
female system, and especially in times of
pregnancy and childbirth.
A good friend of mine called one day
after her daughter had been having labor
pains for hours. Her daughter had gone
to the hospital, but she had not dilated
enough, so she was eventually sent
home. Essentially she was having “false
labor”.
My friend had obtained the Natural
Remedies Encyclopedia from our
ministry and had called to ask me about
the herbal recommendation in the book
for “false labor” pains. Her daughter was
in really bad pain. I told her that I saw
no problem with the specific
recommendation given in the book.
They followed the directions and in
about 20 minutes the pain had ceased!
The book recommended walking, a
warm bath, or resting to help calm the
contractions, but it also recommended an
alternative method, and this is what they
used. It is as follows: “Take two
capsules each of cayenne and bayberry;
13 Leaves of Green; pg 118 Maude E. Scott pub
1996; Maude E. Scott
and get to the hospital or call your
midwife immediately.” 14
FUNGAL JOCK ITCH
Jock Itch may not seem like an
emergency situation but some people
have had well –nigh intolerable cases of
it.
Photo of Skin with “Jock Itch”
In fact, I know of a young man that had
it, and I informed him of the research
concerning the effectiveness of Oil of
Oregano. He used it mixed with olive
oil, which stopped the itching after about
20-30 minutes for a day, but the itch
seemed to be trying to return the
following day. After a couple of days he
put the Oil of Oregano on full strength
that is to say without the olive oil.
The infection cleared up in three days
and has never returned! Such is the
power of God’s remedies.
If more of us would accept God’s way
of healing disease, humanity would see a
lot less suffering and dis-ease; for God
says, “I am the LORD that healeth thee.”
Exodus15:26. In God’s eyes there are no
incurable diseases. It is just a matter of
our cooperating with him. There are
many, many other remedies that God has
